Voice, Piano, Music Appreciation
Katie is a singer, pianist, and actor with a dual degree in Vocal Performance and Music Education from the Eastman School of Music. Katie’s love of music started in early childhood after she watched her mother teach voice lessons at their home. Katie went on to study voice with her mother and piano with acclaimed composer and pianist Crystal LaPoint, developing a passion both for performing and teaching from an early age.
Katie is a proud member of Actors Equity Association and made her Off-Broadway Debut in “Sweetee: A New Musical” directed by Emmy Award Winner Pat Birch at the Signature Theater. Other New York productions include Icons/Idols at Opera America and the New Ohio Theater, and Henry Box Brown and The Dizzy Gillespie Theater. Katie specializes in new works, and often performs in staged readings with composers including Grace Oberhofer, Faye Chiao and the writing duo Kerrigan & Lowdermilk. Her regional credits include Christine Lindt in A Doll's House: A New Opera at Boston's Central Square Theater, Cinderella in Into the Woods at Rochester Center Stage, Rizzo in Grease at Syracuse Talent Company, and Blink the Mouse in Tales of Custard the Dragon at Geva Theater. Katie has also performed as Dorabella in scenes from Cosi fan tutte for a short film directed by Dara Melina in The Plaiedes Product inaugural production.
Katie has taught private and group lessons to students ranging from ages 4 to 60 in everything from classical and opera, to musical theater, pop/rock and soul. Whether the student is taking their first step into the world of musical learning or wants to tackle something more advanced, Katie is ready to take her students on the journey to their best musical selves. Katie’s approach to teaching is fun, student-focused and integrates body movement, voice and creative games to produce, create and experience music from all angles. She particularly enjoys working with young beginners and gets excited at the prospect of instilling lasting curiosity and passion for music in her students. Katie has a teaching certification in New York State for music education K-12
