Piano

Jose is a Venezuelan-American pianist, singer, producer, and educator. As a solo pianist, chamber musician, and keyboardist Jose has performed throughout the United States at notable venues such as Kilbourn Hall, The Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, The National Gallery of the Arts, The Bowery Ballroom, U Street Music Hall, and The Rochester Lyric Theatre to name a few. Jose has also performed internationally at the Orfeo International Music Festival in Vipiteno, Italy where he received the Piano Prize. As the Executive Director of The Empire Film Music Ensemble from 2015-2018, Jose produced over 30 multimedia performances throughout New York State. Additionally, he has directed the art production of 17 independent album releases since founding Master Hand Records in late 2016. He graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a BM in Piano Performance under Dr. Natalya Antonova, as well as a BM in Musical Arts studying and developing community-based arts organizations, while additionally studying Electronic Music Composition under Dr. Oliver Schneller.

Jose has composed music for various musical ensembles and settings, most notably working as a recording/performance artist under the moniker Bedroom Hijinks and as an abstract sound artist. As Bedroom Hijinks, Jose has self-produced and independently released two studio albums and one live recording. Bedroom Hijinks has toured throughout the US both as a solo performer and band, playing a variety of established and DIY venues. As a multimedia sound artist, Jose’s work has been performed in Hatch Hall for the Image/Sound Festival, the University of Rochester’s Memorial Art Gallery in collaboration with the Eastman Audio Research Studio, the School of Live Culture, and at the SinustonFest in Magdeburg Germany.

 

In addition to his work as a performer and composer, Jose is also an avid music educator. He strives to provide his students with the knowledge and skills to self-actualize their musical ideas by focusing on creating individualized curriculum tailored to each student’s individual abilities and musical goals.
