Piano

A virtuosic pianist with an interest in the intersection of cultures, Hanyi is a pianist, performer and educator based in New York City. Born in Tianjin, China, Hanyi started her piano journey at the age of four. Quickly recognized for her unique talent, Hanyi won her first international prize at the 6th Asian Youth Music Competition in 2007. She went on to receive her degrees from Oberlin College (Bachelor of Music) and New York University (Master of Music) while continuing to perform and teach in the United States and abroad.

Hanyi made her debut at Steinway Hall in New York and has also performed at the Yamaha Artist Service, Opera America, Dibner Library, and Blackbox theater. Hanyi’s favorite focus is on musical diversity in different cultures and format. Hanyi has been involved in long term collaborations with illustrators, composers and pianists from France and Italy. In 2017, she was invited as the guest pianist by the Consulate of France and French Embassy Cultural Service department in New York and collaborated with Prize-winning French Illustrator Sandrine Ravel. This concert was remarkable due to its format, which combined digital painting improvisation based on live performance. Currently, Hanyi is exploring works influenced by traditional Chinese music in Western music genres and works in minimalistic style written by Italian minimalist composer Alfonso Peduto for his album “Nachtmusik.” Her first classical digital album was released on iTune, Spotify and Amazon in July 2018.

As an educator, Hanyi personalizes her curriculum to fit each student’s personality, skill level and creative interests. She aims to inspire her students through positive reinforcement, instilling good habits and making them believe that any challenge can be overcome with time and effort. In addition to teaching through Soyulla Artists, Hanyi is an adjunct professor at NYU’s Steinhardt Department of Music.
