Ryan

Piano

Ryan B. has performed as a solo artist in venues around the world, including the Curtis Institute's Field Hall, Manhattan School of Music's Greenfield Hall, and the Steinway Galleries of New Jersey and New York. He has participated in music festivals such as the Beijing International Music Festival and Academy, Miami Music Festival, and the Philadelphia Young Pianists Academy.

A graduate of the piano program of Manhattan School of Music, Ryan studied at MSM with Alexandre Moutouzkine. He owes much to his long time mentor Michelle Kuo, who introduced him to serious study of piano. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at Montclair State University, where he studies with Lisa Yui.

Ryan has performed in masterclasses of many of the world’s leading pianists and pedagogues, including David Dubal, Douglas Humpherys, Simone Dinnerstein, Yoheved “Veda” Kaplinsky, and Jerome Lowenthal. He is currently participating in a year-long residency with the pianist Wu Han, exploring the solo and chamber works of Schubert.

A frequent collaborator with Opera Theatre of Montclair, New Jersey, Ryan also recently took part in a semi-staged production of Le Nozze Di Figaro as part of the inaugural season of the New Jersey Vocal Arts Collaborative (NJVAC).

Ryan takes a two-pronged approach to teaching. First, he focuses on fostering the ability to hear music with understanding and context by developing the skill known as audiation. He also helps students to build a technique that works with the body's natural alignment, fostering habits that will allow students to play without fatigue or pain. Students will progress to more and more challenging repertoire with fewer obstacles. This is all done in a fun, relaxed and motivating environment.
