Jean

Piano, Voice

Jean is a pianist, singer and educator. She has performed as a concert soloist, recitalist and chamber player throughout North America, Europe and North Africa. Jean has performed at venues such as:  Alcazar Palace in Seville, Weill Recital Hall in New York, Seoul National Arts Center and the Banff Centre in Canada. She holds degrees from the Manhattan School of Music and the University of Western Ontario.

Jean has worked as an Assistant Director and Conductor on the creative team for David Lang's Mile Long Opera in 2018 for the architecture firm Diller, Scofidio and Renfro. Additionally, she served as Choral Conductor at the Grammy award-winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus for over ten years. Jean's performances with the chorus include Zankel Hall, BAM, Kings Theater and Avery Fisher Hall. She has collaborated with pop producer, David Maurice of Fox Grove Music, on commerical music endeavors ranging from children's songs to avant-garde pop.

 

Jean has performed her two-women cabaret show entitled, "So...Is this a Date?" in various cabaret venues in New York city and Beyond. In the fall of 2022, Jean was awarded a fellowship with Bespoken, a Women in Music Mentorship program. Jean has been appointed Composer in Residence at Hillman Opera as Co-Composer for a large-scale commissioned work.

Jean's teaching philosophy is to create an environment that allows for creative and curated exploration. She believes that the most significant learning occurs in situations that are experimental and practical. Jean fosters creativity and self-reliance in her lessons. She is a strong believer in musical literacy, ear-training skills and developing abilities to improvise. Jean has lots of experience in non-traditional methods of learning and adapts easily to her students needs and abilities.
