Chelsea

Voice

Chelsea’s musical journey began at the age of 6 when she started taking piano lessons from the highly regarded pianist and teacher Sima Kustanovich. She went on to complete a major in vocal performance and minor in piano studies from The Juilliard School and Mannes School of Music and has been performing and teaching both nationally and internationally ever since.

Praised for her “magnetic” stage presence (NY Classical Review), “warm, golden voice” (Classical.Music.NYC), and “glossy high register” (Sundsvalls Tidning), Chelsea’s performances repertoire spans from the baroque to contemporary periods, including musical theater and the American songbook. Her operatic roles include Tytania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Monica in The Medium, Frasquita in Carmen, and Lucia in The Rape of Lucretia. She has performed around the globe in concert and recital, and is an avid performer of chamber music and new works. Also a dedicated actor, Chelsea is a student of the Meisner Technique under teacher Matthew Corozine.

As a teaching artist, Chelsea traveled to Arusha, Tanzania from 2010-2014 to lead youth empowerment workshops with Art Powers Arusha, where she also served as a co-director from 2012-2014. While at student at Mannes, Chelsea was awarded a Vocal Mentorship position with the Metropolitan Opera Guild, for which she completed pedagogical studies and was a guest teacher in the NYC public school system. In the summer of 2016, she served as a teaching artist with StART Osceola, instructing both vocal majors in chorus and non-singers in “Making Noise.” In the Fall of 2016, Chelsea became a member of In The Pocket NYC, a collective of teaching artists who bring their students together for shared recitals and concerts that benefit arts-related charities. As part of her involvement with ITPNYC, she is a co-teacher of Sing Sing Sing, a vocal ensemble for kids ages 6-13.

A passionate educator, Chelsea maintains a growing teaching studio, teaching singing and piano lessons to both young people and adults at all levels and ranges of experience. A versatile instructor, Chelsea can teach a range of musical genres including classical, musical theater, pop and jazz and especially loves working with young people to discover and expand their voices. Chelsea believes that each student is entirely unique, which is why she tailors individual curriculums and approach for each and every one of her students, making sure that they are having fun and truly enjoying the learning process at every step of the way.
